yeah, it sounded like a producer deciding what to show in the bumper space during the debates - he probably wanted it content-neutral. But regardless, the guy's a jackass, and he shows just how much respect the media people have for your average Joe.

Yes, it does. They are intentionally avoiding filming RP's supporters to uphold the facade that he has no real-life support. This is concrete evidence that his image is being suppressed in the media. I would say this is a HUGE deal and Fox News should be forced to come clean about this.

EDIT: You can even see in their body language that he was caught saying something he definitely should not have. He notices shortly after that they are being filmed and then they start acting very oddly, such as turning around and repeating the last thing he said in a mumble before walking off. He definitely had an "oh crap!" look on his face.

fiddler1
10-29-2007, 11:01 AM
Yeah , there is no media conspiracy to downplay RP's support. Its all just our imagination... yeah right... This should be shoved down their throats. Maybe one of the other networks would grab onto this. Im sure some of them would love a chance to make Faux News look bad....

The guy with the big mustache is the one I think is a producer. I dont live in Michagan and I havnt visited in 15 years and I know I have seen that guy on a news program. He is very arrogant, very memorable.

"Independent Producer" eh? Combined with the other video that shows him holding a Fox News mic, this leavess the possibility that he was doing work for Fox News national for the debate. Does anyone know if this show Off the Record covered the debate? It's important for us to figure out exactly what coverage he was talking about when he said he doesn't want RPs people.

Yea, I agree: I suggest sending POLITE emails to both the station and Skubick himself. I will and so should you. Please don't send him anything angry or malicious because that certainly won't help the cause.

EDIT: Here is the e-mail I sent...

Hello sir,

As you are most likely aware, a video has surfaced on the internet that features you at the Mackinaw island debate reception. In this video, you are heard stating that you do not want Ron Paul's supporters seen in your coverage. I am sending you this e-mail as a polite request to explain your statement and why you don't feel Ron Paul's supporters should be visible. It is apparent in the video that you become quite uncomfortable after learning you are being filmed and soon walk away.

I'm sure you know that Ron Paul supporters are very organized so I suggest quickly moving to make a statement regarding this video. Otherwise you are going to be vilified once this video and story rapidly spread through the massive web of Ron Paul supporters.

EDIT #2: skubick@wkar.org is NOT a valid e-mail address. Might he not work for public broadcasting anymore?

I just got a reply from Tim Skubick...

Hi ME :): Thanks for getting in touch and yes, I indeed do have a more than reasonable explanation and thank you for the opportunity to clear it up. As you know I've been at this business for about 38 years and have always tried to be fair in my coverge. Toward that objective, had your cameras been outside on the porch of the Grand Hotel you would have seen that I did an extensive interview with candidate Mr. Paul and shot extensive video of his supporters, their rally and his speech to them. By the time we got into the lunch room where you were, I was looking for video that was not associated with anyone candidate, we call it generic video. We did not shoot any Romney folks, Paul folks or anyone else for that matter. Hence we were not trying to censor Mr.
Paul. Quite the opposite, we gave him equal treatment with all the other candidates. I'm sure in your sense of fairness you understand this and perhaps your video of alleged censorship might be altered. I deeply appreciate your participation in the political process and also appreciate you bringing this to my attention. BTW we would be more than pleased to have Mr. Paul appear on our Off the Record television broadcast and if you can help make that happen, I would be grateful.
Thanks again..Tim Skubick.

Lets hope the campaign says yes to accept this his invitation on the show.

This is a kick-ass outcome for something like this - and to think all this happened in one day. Now we have an opportunity for RP to get more coverage in a key state!

This is why it always pays to get the facts straight first before acting - something I didnt do in my first post. I thank the person who wrote to this man to get clarification.

1) Is someone running with this to the campaign?

2) Can the video be taken down / or altered for now so we dont slander this man's name?

I just got back from hours at the Docs office to find all this stuff has happened, i put the video up on youtube to save it because the original site took it down, i had no other agenda but to preserve the evidence... and as such, it will stay preserved. the people on the video speak for themselves... I didn't make the video, nor have i edited it in anyway. If the people who are on the video personally ask me to take it down, then i will consider taking it down. until then, it is for public consumption.

First, we have no evidence that these guys are in any way associated with Fox.

Second, this video isn't evidence of conspiracy. The guy was describing some shots he wanted, probably to his crew. He didn't want shots of activists, he wanted shots of people enjoying the proceedings, or "eating and crap like that". I've been in the media, and I can assure you, this sounds callous but it's just technical stuff you do to get the shots you want from your crew. If there was a huge crowd there with signs and banners, being loud, rooting for Giuliani or Thompson, my educated guess is he would have said the same thing.

Once again we get a piece of circumstantial "evidence", taken totally out of context, and paint it up as a conspiracy to keep down Ron Paul.

EDIT: You can even see in their body language that he was caught saying something he definitely should not have. He notices shortly after that they are being filmed and then they start acting very oddly, such as turning around and repeating the last thing he said in a mumble before walking off. He definitely had an "oh crap!" look on his face.

It IS absolute proof they wanted to avoid filming the Ron Paul supporters. It does not prove WHY he wanted to avoid them. We have proven the means, but not the motive. Do you agree on that or no?

I sympathize. I really do. It's a tough thing to accept, but life isn't as sexy as we make it out to be. Ron Paul is screwed over by the system, which is designed to focus on celebrity candidates. Hell, the media picks the frontrunners by publicizing them b/c of their celebrity status long before they even declare their candidacy. But there is no evil motive to it. No plan to keep Ron down. They're just trying to make as much money as possible. Puffing a presidential race is their game, and the best way to puff it is with candidates who are highly "visible" in the popular culture. There is no other reason on the planet that the GOP would ever pick Rudolph Guiliani as their favored son, I don't care now neoconservative they are.

You're making several broad assumptions here.

First, you're disparaging the 9 & 10 news bit, which reaches millions of people at much higher ratings and as such would be, in my book, a much better coverage buy than 30 seconds on Fox news.

Second, you're assuming that Fox national a) didn't cover Paul and b) covered everybody else. Perhaps they missed the one speech you linked to, but they filmed him at the event and filmed him at his rally.

Third, you're assuming that FOX national failed to cover him as a matter of intent, and not as a matter of simply not being informed. It happens a lot in news. Intel gets lost, people get snatched up on other projects. Interviews fall through the crack. I've been in media, I know the game.

But this is all irrelevant, because if I'm not mistaken, the Giuliani ferry incident was the single biggest news story to make it out of Mackinaw. Ron Paul got a lot of coverage at that event, and it was coverage of a most populist and positive kind. You can thank the media for it, including Fox News who aired the piece numerous times.
