View Full Version : What's the benefit of winning online polls?

Whenever there's a new online poll, there's a thread asking people to vote in it, sometimes saying "you know what to do." What do we have to gain by voting for Ron Paul in these polls?

A lot of them publicize who wins. Sodahead polls are lame but have a BUNCH of readers, so does Townhall and unfortunately so does Newsmax because their polls are skewed and you have to join a database...

Fox often announces who wins, etc etc. It is earned media. And satisfying at some level, to win. You don't have to vote in them but why do you care enough if others do to start a thread? I'm genuinely curious.

Online polls are not really that significant. They don't measure the sentiment of the general public. If it is perceived that "spamming" a poll has occured, the results are even more easily ignored and that can even hurt the cause or person spammed on behalf of it. "Oh, it is just those Ron Paul nuts at it again- spamming the poll!"- implying that they could not win unless they do spam or cheat. If it appears more fair (which would still be questionable) a win can reflect positively on the person or issue but not nearly as much as winning an actual poll. I personally always ignore results of online polls.

If the poll results show that Ron Paul won a poll or did very well, people viewing those poll results may take him into consideration more because it seems "he can win"... you want to bet on a winner...

doesn't mean it's going to work, but I'm sure it can get a few our way, and a few is better than none or even losing some if they see he's not doing well..

If nothing else, we certainly don't want to give the impression to the viewers that Ron's people have abandoned him.

Which is why it is important to at least seem like a legit poll. You have to do well in those too. If it is seen as spamming, then it is tainted and Ron potentially harmed.

It originated from the fact that we wanted to be taken seriously and it was one of the easiest ways to gain some legitimacy. Although, as Sean Hannity pointed out..... we're just a bunch of spammers in our mother's basement :p

Nowadays, Online polls really don't hold as much value for us, simply because everyone knows were going to win every poll on the internet.

If we lose an online poll, it gives the person who beat Ron Paul more credibility because Ron Paul wins all online polls.

In a recent interview on FOX, the reporter was gushing about how popular Ron Paul is because he wins all their polls. LOL... It also opens up the comment section to discussion... better to have them discussing Ron than NOT discussing him. It keeps forcing him into people's consciousness.
