Not sure if this was posted yet: Man detained for nearly an hour for taking pictures and video of trains. He's studying to design transit systems.

Can't seem to get it to embed, but it's titled "Detained for photography in Baltimore".

This is getting ridiculous.

As much as I sympathize with the man I imminently stopped watching as soon as they asked him for an I.D. and he started saying he doesn't have to by law. It was probably his first mistake and I really wasn't interesting in seeing what happened after that.

You don't argue with cops. I wish people learn this already. You follow orders or you'll meet their force which you cannot win against. They are not the judge nor the jury and they don't give a shit about what you think they can or cannot do or what you think you have or don't have to do.

When asked for an I.D. the correct response is: "Officer, are you ordering me or asking?" If he doesn't explicitly order you to show your I.D. or do what ever don't do it, just stand there silently and ignore him. Going against their orders though is a one way street to getting hurt unnecessarily.

EDIT: and before you start giving me crap and neg rep, I'm not trying to say that they can do what ever they want, all I'm saying is that if you know they are ordering you to do something illegal, do it anyway, especially if you are recording the whole thing, and then when it's over go fking sue the shit out of them. That's the only way to fight back and win.

I see your point, except that in this case he pretty much did get away with it. He didn't end up showing his ID to the officers giving him trouble.

I wonder how much of it was due to how he handled it, and how much was due to the fact that he was hearing impaired, giving him some sympathy?

He is not the only one who didn't show ID, got away with it, and put the officers in trouble.

That video reminds me of my encounter with the police in Maryland at a football tailgate:

That dude became a cop to go on power trips like that one. Quote:

You can't record without my permission.

He also said something like "I just told you... If you don't listen, there are going to be consequences".

"I'm just telling you what the deal is... I'm just telling you what to do"

Did I get that right?
