Obama code-named ‘smart alec’ in Britain
By Rachel Rose Hartman

Do Brits think Barack Obama is a bit of a "smart alec"?

The label certainly appears to fit in the minds of British police. Scotland Yard, the UK's police force, has given Obama the security codename 'Chalaque' for his visit this week to the United Kingdom, the UK Daily Mail reports. The term is reportedly a Punjabi word meaning someone who is too clever for his own good, according to the newspaper.

A Punjabi speaker told the newspaper that the word is 'not considered rude', but could be 'mildly offensive'. "It is also said to mean 'cheeky, crafty and cunning'," the paper notes.

Scotland Yard insiders told the Sunday Times that codewords are randomly generated by computer, "but the paper wondered why officials decided to stick with them, when they could have simply had another word selected that would be less provocative," the paper notes.

As in Britain, security code names are used in America by U.S. Secret Service to identify high-profile individuals under their protection.

This on top of Queen's alleged sunb of Obama when Obama tried to toast her ( video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZCsfyaOGdw&feature=player_embedded) ) could be bit troubling for American public. Are Brits on purpose trying to disrespect POTUS?

This is also surprising as they are supposed to be our bestest ally in GWOT and other wars.

Obama was the first President not to be invited to a royal wedding. He insulted the Queen near the beginning of his Presidency (remember Braveheart and The Patriot), and he seems to be really unconcerned about our alliance with the United Kingdom. It's really getting on the nerves of right-wing foreign policy observers, and seems to even occasionally get on the nerves of left-wing ones.

'He was like a slightly sheepish schoolboy'

Body language expert Judi James said Mr Obama's behaviour was a departure from his trademark confidence and charisma.

''Rather than appearing the alpha male, which he has done so much recently, Obama's body language was reduced to that of a slightly sheepish schoolboy,'' she said. ''His wife was shepherding him around with little pushes and, when he stood next to the Queen, it was with his arms dangling as if he didn't know what to do with his hands.''

The couple appeared no less cowed by the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

While Kate was ''absolutely glowing with confidence'' and ''easily matched Michelle'', with her eye contact and assured gesticulations, William, who tends to make deferential gestures in the company of well-known figures, also appeared unfazed, she said. ''Obama was standing quite submissively.''

Yesterday, President Obama had talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron on issues including Libya and the economy.PA, AFP

Congress should keep eyes open on his return home so he doesn't order bombing of another foreign country to boost his self image or ego.

Should his codename have been "President?"

No, that would be too actualistic.

As long as Obama treats the actual elected representatives well I don't see a problem.

He didn't treat them at all before Libya invasion. Adding blowback risks frim unelected libyan civilians, airport/train station gropings could be on for next 60-65 years instead of previous estimate of 50 years freedom checks.

Not sure about this though, Michelle and Kate seem equally unfazed:

I guess "smart alec" is better than my code name for him; "king jackass"
