DeMint saying that Reid has been duplicitous in avoiding any debate, and going back on his word, which is apparently meaningless.

Good speech, good points. He seems to be getting some support as well.

Hanging on to shreds of hope.

Mike Lee up now.

Lee spoke about the need for debate, especially where issues are related to the Constitution. Sunset or expiration dates are meaningless if they are continually extended with no debate, and no process.

Senator Rand Paul is a pleasure to listen to. Finally... finally... a senator who has read the U.S. Constitution and is committed to his Oath of Office.

So are they voting on an extension of the Patriot Act today or repealing it?

JK/SEA

I think Rand said something about 1am...

I thought Reid said last pm that they would take it up again thurs. But idk for sure. They have to get cloture because there is 30 hrs of debate after cloture vote.

If Rand is saying 1am it means he isn't waiving the 30 hours he's entitled to of debate.

But why are they so concerned about 'flying the bill' to the President in Europe? Why can't they just transmit it by computer? Surely Obama has secure computer connections nearby?

It's less efficient to fly it.

It's the US gov't modus operandi.

Rand is not going to waive the 30 hours...there is no way he would unless they agree to a roll-call vote on the gun records amendment.

When do the Senators usually go home? I mean it's already over 4pm.
