OMG! Ron Paul wants to legalize prostitution!

A) At the Federal level.
2) As far as I can tell, his position is already current law. Otherwise, how do you explain Nevada?

So what are these jackholes bitching about?

Because they just need something to critize in Dr. Paul. Don't try to rationalize them. They're irrational.

Anyone know if Dennis Hof and the Bunny Ranch brothel will endorse Ron Paul again soon?

What's the great argument to OUTLAW prostitution? Can anyone tell me a single good thing that's come of it over the years? Has it stopped prostitution? Has it stopped it even a little?

I find myself a bit hesitant to compare it to the drug war, equating women to objects and all, but what we are talking about when you get down to it is a service which is pretty easy to equate to a good. Just like the drug war, outlawing it has NOT gotten rid of the service/good and has in fact made the distribution of it extremely hazardous for the one providing the service and the one...eh...receiving it. It's turned into a black market that's run by criminals and makes it far, far more likely for death and disease to result from it.

The usual argument is to stop human and especially underage trafficking, but what's easier? Keeping an eye on prostitution and stopping rape when it's out in the open, or trying to outlaw the whole practice? When you've got a problem like this what we have is a highly unpractical solution to a problem that needs a practical one as the unpractical solution doesn't work in the slightest.

And I don't doubt someone profits greatly from keeping it illegal. Whether you believe the practice is immoral or not, what possible success do you think you're going to achieve by trying to stop people from doing it? It'd be like trying to outlaw premarital sex. That sounds like a pretty stupid idea, doesn't it? But because we've already tried a pretty stupid idea and it obviously isn't working it somehow doesn't seem stupid? My view on it is much like the drug war. I don't agree with the practice, but you'd end up saving a lot of lives if you brought it out into the light.

...debate aside, as far as campaigns go I certainly agree the 'legalize prostitution' bit probably isn't a great idea to grab voters for the exact same reason 'legalize drugs' doesn't, because people assume that if you get rid of these magical laws that have been keeping the tide in check, by tomorrow everybody will be drowning in hookers and blow. Their kids will have to fight through prostitutes on their way to school and have to wear gas masks in class to avoid inhaling the clouds of marijuana smoke they'll be forced to endure for the rest of their lives.

But still, it's stupid.

Excellent point. When we push these things to the underground black market, we only invite other illegal activities and criminal minds such as sex trafficking. We're only throwing gasoline on the fire.

Peter Schiff said it best, we allow people to pay each other to have sex as long as you film it! lol

Your whole post was great but the above part was just epic lmao

Completely agree with that.

That's a fantastic counter-point lol We can definitely use it.

EDIT : And people need to stop worrying so much about these things, be it OBL, drugs, prostitution or whatever, it's just the way it's going to be, media is going to distort Ron's words, we don't have control over that but what we can do is when others raise these issues with us, we should calmly explain his position rather than getting pessimistic about how these things will affect his chances.

Seems like this is the MSM strategy this time around, in 2011: always introduce RP as the drugs and prostitute guy. In 2007 he was more the "America deserved to be attacked" guy. It's true, RP wants to keep the law exactly the way it ALREADY IS on prostitution. On drugs, he wants to repeal federal laws, but that doesn't mean the states have to legalize, and most of them probably will not. He needs to do a better job explaining federalism when questioned about this.

LOL That is a damn good point.

I don't understand why this concept has not been taken advantage of by the market.

All you have to do is open a porn studio, film all the john's having sex with the hoes, then sell them a copy of the dvd on the way out and it should be totally legit right

They can even use the footage later on and pay them more and use it to make commercial pornography.

Prostitution was legalized here in New Zealand a number of years ago -- the result has been nothing but positive.
