Republican strategists say President Obama’s call for peace negotiations based on Israel’s 1967 borders will help them drive a wedge between Jewish voters and the Democratic Party.

GOP strategists acknowledged that their party for years has tried with little success to split Jewish voters and donors from Democratic candidates.

This time is different, they say, because of perceptions by some that Obama is more concerned with the American image on the Arab street than staunchly defending Israel in its standoff with Palestinian leadership.

And while the Jewish vote may be only one-seventh of the black vote, it has proven decisive in the crucial state of Florida. Moreover, Jewish contributions, by some estimates, may make up half of all the contributions to the Democratic Party.

contributions and media access, yes-but Israel is one issue, and Obama knows this. and Jews won't become social conservatives just because of Israel. Obama will play Medi-scare card in Florida.

People on this forum, for the most part, are not social conservatives are they?

Actually about 3% of Americans are Jewish and I've read (forget where) that they're about twice as likely as Gentiles to vote. So that would mean Jews are about 6% of voters from the start.

Jews may make up less than 10% of voters, but they call about 90% of the shots.
