Republicans suck in New York. Period. End of Story.

The GOP lost the special election in NY-26 and the media and Democrats are heralding it as proof that the GOP is getting punished for wanting to reform medicare.

Back when the GOP lost the 2009 special election in New York featuring Dede Scozzafava, et al, the Democrats heralded the GOP defeat as proof that Republican opposition to Obamacare and being the “Party of No” was a clear sign that the Democrats were right on the agenda and the GOP’s obstruction of Barack Obama would be punished by the voters.

2009 was different; in that one the GOP picked a progressive, and a conservative split the GOP vote; even the GOP elite split.

this time both the Rep and Dem were safe, boring party hacks. the Rep had money, looks, and registration on her side. The Dem didn't even live in the district. it was MEDICARE. there was no other reason for a Rep to vote for Hochul.

What really happened is that the NY State Republican Party was simply outflanked by the Democrats. The Dems, I believe got that "Jack Davis" guy into the race, called him a Tea Party candidate who made flirtations, albeit false ones, to Ron's ideas (Davis has been a Democrat forever) which ended up cutting 9% of the vote away from the Republican Jane Corwin.

She wasn't much better, but the State Party boards the failboat consistently year after year.
