Lithium does not lower suicide rates - it barely effects rates at all and in some individual it actually drives them over the edge. For the rest of the lithium users, it is described as "Soul numbing". Great...

The statement wasn't meant to be taken literally and I'm surprised you took it that way. Compared to radioactivity, lithium is nothing (having taken it) .
