1) There is an open seat

2) He's already won statewide - twice

3) He's getting no traction so far in the Presidential Primary

4) He might not be let in further debates

5) He's pro-choice, meaning he could never win the GOP nomination

6) He could jump in now and easily be the front-runner. The best GOP fundraiser so far only has $303,000. http://fec.gov/disclosurehs/HSCandList.do?electionYr=2012&category=stateS_rep&candOfficeSt=NM

7) This would be totally winnable, and is probably the only chance that either the GOP could win the NM Senate seat, and that we'll get another Liberty advocate in the Senate in 2012.

Been said many times. I don't think that is what he wants to do, but we'll see

Yes, we will see. It may not look like a bad option to him at this point. Being in the Presidential Debate was good practice for the Senate Race... ;)

Agreed. He would join Rand, Jim and Mike doing good things to stop the madness of trillion dollar spending.

He s also pulling around front runner status for that senate race.. Seriously I would donate a lot.

I agree 100%. Johnson could do so much more for Liberty in the Senate.

He didn't make any waves in the first debate, and frankly I wasn't impressed.

Go for the Senate Gary!

I doubt he would want to. In fact, I don't get the impression that he really wants to run for president either. But yeah, if he's serious about another presidential run, he really needs to practice somewhere like the senate first. He needs more polish and gravitas.

Is this a comment about Johnson or Paul?

Why so he can start opening up New Mexican Guantanamo Bay's? Seriously, the guy is alright. But he sure gets a HUGE get-out-of-jail-free card around here despite his stance on the illegal prison and the tortures.

As another on this forum said, Johnson ain't worthy of carrying Paul's jockstrap.

Johnson has been far more libertarian while running a race than Rand was.

2012 could be a very good year for libertarians if he runs for Senate in New Mexico. We might have libertarian leaning Senators in all of the south western states in 2012 considering that Chaffetz is running in Utah against Orrin Hatch and Jeff Flake is running in Arizona for Jon Kyl's seat.

May be I'm "underinformed" about him but I still think he's just a CFR plant to cut Ron's numbers, otherwise why would he run? He knows fully well that he has no chance but Paul does have an outside chance & obviously Ron won't run next time so as a libertarian (if he indeed is one), why wouldn't he give the best chance to liberty since this is first time in many decades that a REAL "conservative" has a decent shot at winning & stay out of it? Not to mention he's pro-Israel, pro-NAFTA, pro-open-borders & internationalism, pro-"humanitarian" wars & rarely talks about the core issue ie Fed.

If you look at the tape of building 7 going down, you can clearly see Gary Johnson in the background holding what appears to be a detonator...dude, this is deep!

I will continue donating to Gary Johnson's campaign along with Paul's campaign. It's nice to have a chance to choose the better of two goods for a change.

You're right, you're underinformed. Check out www.garyjohnson2012.com to see where he really stands. And if he's a CFR plant then Ron Paul has been consorting with a spy for years b/c they've been friends since long before libertarianism got popular.

Excellent points. I'm going to be really disappointed if Gary passes up this opportunity. It will show he puts his ego ahead of an obvious, significant advancement for liberty.

Maybe Rand's recent successes can show him how much attention and opportunities are available to a senator. Rand sure hasn't had a lack of spotlight.

i would make a small donation to his Senate campaign, but its nice having him backing up Dr. Paul up there, hopefully for at least another debate or so

I think he's alright now in the Pres. debates. Having 2/5 candidates in the last debate be libertarians definitely makes it seem like the movement is growing.

However, a Senate run before too long would be the best option for everyone involved. The only reason why I think he'd still be in this Pres. campaign is that he might want to get exposure to hopefully be pegged by Dr. Paul for a VP running mate.

Perhaps we could create a pledge set to quantify the support he'd have for the Senate race versus the Presidential race.

Gary should go after disaffected democrats and liberals and convert them into GOP votes, get into as many presidential debates as he can, then bow out and throw his support behind Ron.

After doing so, run for the NM seat and win.

I've stated before that the best timing for this would be before the Ames Straw Poll. At the last debate before the straw poll, the weaker of the two liberty candidates should use his closing statement to drop and endorse the other liberty candidate.

I am a user on the website Reddit.com and about two weeks ago there was a user there who posted that Gary Johnson was speaking at his house that night and invited Redditors to attend the party. I just sent him a message with a link to this thread as well as a brief explanation why Gary should run for Senate and how he could truly do so much good for our country from the Senate floor. Hopefully this fella has some direct lines of communication with the Johnson campaign and can help get the message to Gary.

I don't think that helps Ron and Ron seems to be doing better along those lines than Gary, anyhow.

I like the notion of Gary as Ron's VP.
