Was he? The accounts I've read made no mention of that, and for some reason I thought his service started before the draft. I could be wrong, but it really doesn't matter to me either way.

Edit: Leaving my original post , but adding on. Oops. For some reason I wasn't aware of a continuous draft at that time. I guess I think of the draft and it ramping up during Vietnam.
