Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) isn’t ready yet to cut Mitt Romney loose following the Republican presidential candidate’s defense of his Massachusetts healthcare plan last week.
DeMint, the conservative kingmaker who had endorsed Romney for the nomination in 2008, said that he hadn’t yet ruled out endorsing Romney again in 2012 — or for that matter any other candidate.
“I haven’t stricken anybody off my list, or put anybody on it, really,” DeMint said. “And it’s going to be several months before I look at endorsing.”
A source close to the Palmetto State conservative had emphasized in March that DeMint “would never consider” endorsing Romney again unless he were to admit that the healthcare reform plan he installed as governor of Massachusetts was “a colossal mistake.”

Remember this is the guy who supported not only the PATRIOT ACT but the re-authorization of it.

It's a match made in heaven. Mitt Romney gets excited over the patriot act.

I haven’t stricken anybody off my list...
At least that means an endorsement for Ron could still be lingering... :)

Judging by that quote it would appear as though DeMint was saying he would potentially endorse Romney if Romney were to admit that his health care plan was "a mistake"? If so that would be a major disappointment, although not particularly surprising at all. DeMint was supposedly one of the most "conservative" members of the Senate. This is just further evidence that most, if not all of the Republican establishment and the so-called "conservative movement" are just a bunch of phonies who talk about limited government, but really don't give a crap at all about principles. However, I guess we were already aware of this.

I heard that Rand told DeMint that his goal was to make DeMint look like a moderate. I think he's done that already.

Also, a Romney endorsement is shit-piece territory. Tread carefully, sir.

I didn't know he voted for the patriot act.. Ugh, luckily he isn't seeking another term. I didn't vote for him, but as a south carolinian I have to say we're sorry for this mistake.

DeMint, with all his flaws, is still a million times better than the run of the mill GOP senators we have in Congress.
I don't understand how he could endorse Romney though...Romneycare, gun control, ABORTION.
I hope he does endorse Ron, it makes alot of sense, their views line up so often and Jimothy seems to get along really well with Rand.

DeMint will not endorse Romney. He is just being a southern gentleman and wants to avoid criticizing other Republicans.

Yeah, I'm sure Alvin Greene would've been a lot better.

DeMint thinks the odds are high
the GOP makes the mistake of thinking
Romney can whump our POTUS in
november of 2012 and he has to be
loyal to that possible decision???

I will in no way support any candidate who is endorsed by Jim Demint. He is a phony conservative put up by the GOP to try to reestablish itself as a bastion of conservatism. What a joke. All you have to do is look at his record and see how many times he votes yes for big daddy government.
Mandatory Gun Show Background Check Act - voted yes
No Child Left Behind Act voted yes
Help America Vote Act of 2002 voted yes
CAFTA Implementation Bill voted yes
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 Amendments Act of 2008 voted yes

Homeland Security Appropriations, FY 2004 bill voted yes
Military Commissions Act of 2006 voted yes

In 2009 Jim Demint tried to steal Ron Paul's thunder on Audit the Fed which Ron Paul wrote. Now where is Jim Demint? I don't see him offering any new ideas about cutting spending but he does have an extensive record when it comes to empowering the Federal Government and taking away our civil liberties.

Agreed.
He would endorse Romney for the same reason Ron Paul agreed to endorse other republicans last election, it's politics.

DeMint will not endorse Romney. He is just being a southern gentleman and wants to avoid criticizing other Republicans.Everytime I run into a Republican who brings up "Reagan's 11th Commandment" I ask them how that's been working out for us?

Off topic. I'm not defending the "11th Comandment". I'm pointing out someone is using it.
