Tim Pawlenty raised more than $800,000 during his big kickoff fundraiser Wednesday night in Minneapolis, according to an adviser.

Spokesman Alex Conant declined to comment on the exact haul for Pawlenty's exploratory committee, but said that 400 people attended the campaign's biggest event to date. Tickets cost $2,500 for a VIP reception and dinner, and $1,000 for just the dinner.

"Our goal is not to keep up with Mitt [Romney]," Pawlenty told local reporters before repeating what's become his favorite fundraising analogy. "Our goal is to raise enough money to have at least a Buick, if not a Cadillac-level, campaign."

Judging by the recent polls and common sense, Pawlenty isn't going anywhere. The establishment media is trying to boost his name recognition and proclaim him a "top-tier candidate", but it certainly isn't working yet - and probably not anytime soon.

I wouldn't put a lot of faith in that number. Let's remember that this was the same guy and campaign with the hope for a $12K moneybomb a couple of weeks ago. He's trying to hang on and find a way above the noise to remain relevent through IA. He doesn't do well there he's back to Milktoast.

That number is very realistic. He invited all the top CEOs and business leaders in Minnesota for a fundraising dinner. It's not hard to imagine that a former governor of a state is able to attract 400 businessmen to pay $2,500 (which is nothing to them) for a dinner with a presidential candidate who can possibly help them out later. It's an investment to them.

Also, important to note, unlike Dr. Paul's money bombs which are largely composed of tens of thousands of people donating something like 50 dollars, Pawlenty just pulled the usually GOP style fundraiser by having a few hundred members of the aristocracy drop a couple grand.

That is true and the majority probably tapped out on that one. Meanwhile, we had over 30,000 people giving small amounts. Most will be able to contribute like that 50 times over. Imagine if each person that donated last time did so even every 2 months. That would be 6 mil by next year, and that is assuming the same amount of money and people with no Increase which is not likely.

Tim Pawlenty raised over $800,000

We raised over $1,080,000

I'm still at peace with myself.
