Goldwater was able to be nominated, but LBJ used scare tactics (they even passed out campaign literature with SS cards because Goldwater wanted voluntary social security)
today dependency is far higher than 1964 so only if its a foreign policy election could a libertarian be elected.

The self-evident nature of the implosion of the Welfare-Warfare State today is a far-cry different than in 1964 when the Great Society did not even exist yet, and SS was merely 30 years old, and the only gun law from the Federal Government was the 1934 Gun Act. I wouldn't transpose the times so flippantly. :p

last week I might have agreed with you, but the Dems will be taking NY-26 based entirely on Medicare scare tactics. And if they take NY 26 which held in 1974, which held in 2008, then they will take the House in 2012 and retain the senate.
