basically a contest between a socialite country club big govt Republican, and a politically connected big govt Democrat, except for one thing: Medicare

the Dem is ahead because she is using LBJ scare tactics regarding Medicare, and the sheep-who are as solidly Republican as anywhere-are falling for it.

they will send a message that even this mild reform 15 years from now will cost the GOP this seat.

and all hope of entitlement reform will die.

it would be one thing if the Dem won on an anti-war policy. but this makes no sense.

Unfortunately, it makes perfect sense:

A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

Who will be our dictator?

(I would nominate Ron Paul, but, of course, he would refuse because it would be unConstitutional.)

We need another Shift in the GOP like we had in 2010. We need to boot out all the big government neocons, and get more libertarians, a contitutional fiscal-conservatives.

but if the sheep in a historical NY GOP district won't accept the piddling Ryan cuts 15 years into the future how can they be convinced to accept Ron/Rand style cuts today?

As long as they (at least 51%) remain uninformed sheep - simply put - they won't ever accept any cuts - not from Paul Ryan - and nor from Ron Paul.

Ron Paul has a better selling point. Roll back the empire first then hit entitlements. Paul Ryan's plan is hopeless.

But regardless - even with Ron Paul's selling point - if a Democrat (Prez Obama) promises no cuts then, invariably, they will probably vote for Obama.

Perhaps the only hope is that Ron Paul is able to educate enough that the cuts are necessary and (longterm) beneficial to them and the country. It's a longshot - but it's the only hope right now.
