I would like to see a politician ask a crowd:

"By a show of hands, do you think the War on Drugs will be won in 5 years?"

(Not sure if any hands would rise - maybe a few)

Then ask, "Do you think the War on Drugs will be won in 10 years?"

(Probably still few - if any)

Finally, "Do you think the War on Drugs will be won in 20 years? Or for that matter ever?"

Hopefully, the message would sink in - there is no chance the war on drugs will ever be won. So why continue to fight something that cannot be won? Legalize it instead. Tax it. Regulate it. Whatever. Then you could use all the free prison space to put real criminals in jail (which should go over well with most voters.)
