When asked why the Houston Area, which is home to NASA’s Johnson Space Center, did not get one of the space shuttles? Paul did not mince words; he firmly stated “that the president wanted to punish Texas.”

A city not getting a space shuttle is punishing an entire state? I guess most states got punished. Punished for what?

He doesn't usually say stuff unless he has information backing it up. Perhaps he heard stuff in the halls of congress that you haven't?

Yes, Zippy, we all know every state has a NASA control center that guided moon landings and such.

Attacking the President in the GOP primary-that's always a good thing to do to get votes.

Absolutely. Not giving "Houston, we have a problem" a space shuttle is stupid at best, purposefully insulting at worst.

Allocation of the final three shuttles:

At Cape Canaveral, NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden announced where three NASA space shuttles will be retired. Shuttle Atlantis will head to the Kennedy Space Center, Shuttle Endeavour to the California Science Center, and Shuttle Discovery will head to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in D.C.,

Yes, Houston would have been a good choice as well. Perhaps among these three, the California Science Center would have been the weakest. Maybe they wanted the West Coast to have one as well since California was their secondary landing site. Hard to argue against the Kennedy Space Center or the Smithsonian.

If one goes to Space Center Houston, there are lots of mock ups of the space shuttle whether within the themed park type exhibit or within Nasa itself for training purposes.
Gee, in the end, it's just a stupid space shuttle. Certainly, the sake of our nation is far more important than a space shuttle and NASA for that matter.

He's probably right, but honestly the final resting place of an inoperable shuttle is the least of my worries these days... But, the good Dr. was asked about it, and he opined...

not just this punishment, but also the denial of almost routine disaster (fire) aid
