BRADENTON – With his recent announcement that he would in fact seek the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination, Congressman Ron Paul brings a big name and turnkey support network into a candidate field that has been surprisingly slow in terms of jumping into a race that had once seemed likely to be amongst the most crowded in modern history.
While many of the presumed establishment candidates like Senator John Thune and Texas Governor Rick Perry surprised supporters by announcing they would not run early, and others like Sarah Palin have kept mum, while doing little to indicate a run is in the making, the recent announcement by 2008 candidate Mike Huckabee that he also wouldn't seek the nomination has left the field looking rather bare.
