Now, as the blogger at LRC blog already noted, that price is a little stiff assuming a spot silver price of $35. That comes out to $5.02 a gallon.

Paying with 2 Roosevelt dimes comes out to $4 a gallon with silver price at $27.

But still, what better way to bring attention to currency devaluation?

That is Epic. Hope it brings up conversations. Oregonians seem to be very independent and want to get off the grid but are stuck in the emotional dependency they have with the left wing. Oregon could change and become the free state on a dime. Just a spark is needed.

Once ounce of back then would buy 175 gallons

One ounce of gold today buys 375 gallons (4 gal)

Careful there - you start paying in pre-'64 coins, the next thing you know they'll be askin' us to go back to the days when Oregonians could pump their own damn gas.

(I heard NJ is the only other state where that's a law)

Its some crazy idea where the state government thought it could mandate job creation. Like if you had to pay someone to mow your lawn and where prohibited from doing it yourself. Stupid and flawed but in Oregon the law is kinda tradition now. Even though they all know its stupid it has become part of Oregon.

Problem is everyone still uses the FRN as the base unit to adjust the cost of goods to precious metals. That's the issue I have with gold and silver and nobody seems to bring that up. The FRN is still the common denominator. It needs to be removed from the equation.

Someone in Vagas paid their employees with silver eagles and reported only the legal tender amount of the payment, saving both sides on taxes. The guy was arrested of course for tax evasion, but it's funny because everything he was doing was legal. It's not his fault the silver was worth 30x more than the legal tender it represented. I will see if I can find the link.

Should also say:

(And it'd be 19 cents if the state thought you were competent enough to pump your own gas)
