Obama Kept Us Safe
by Jack Hunter

During the 2008 campaign, I repeatedly denounced the many ways in which George W. Bush doubled the size of government. At that time, Republicans offered a single defense of President Bush: "He kept us safe." Indeed, little else seemed to matter to most Republicans, as the party rallied around their leader, his record, and a GOP presidential nominee who ran on a virtually identical platform. The War on Terror trumped all else, Republicans insisted, as the party devoted itself fully to the warrior in chief.

Last week, President Obama significantly out-Bushed Bush: He killed Osama bin Laden. Considering that the War on Terror has been the GOP's top priority for the last decade, it would seem that most Republicans will now be ready to vote for Obama in 2012.
