Gallup posted a poll today saying the majority of Americans favor a 3rd party, so I examine the reasons why and answer the question regarding hope and change with an adaptation on a famous question... features the good Doctor. Enjoy.

If the GOP does not nominate a truly limited-government person for President, Ron Paul being the only serious advocate for seriously restraining the Federal government that has the slightest shot of winning, we have to reduce the GOP to third party status, not in the American sense, but in the Westminster-sense.

Because both current major parties suck and mimick each other mostly.

What about those sore loser laws? If Ron Paul runs and fails to secure the Republican nomination, he won't be on the ballot in states like Texas or Oklahoma.

Not if he is nominated by a party without his consent. The thing that is unique about Presidential elections is that you are really voting for a slate of electors, so a minor party could put Ron Paul's name on the ballot as the candidate their slate of electors would vote for. I am not a fan of a third party bid, but I do think that we might want to be open to the possibility of forming a party with Ron Paul as its Presidential nominee for the purpose of organization for future elections and gauging of relative strength amongst the general electorate.
