I have seen some great rates for local cable TV advertising in smaller communities and I have seen some awesome videos on you tube that would appeal to many who have never heard of Ron Paul.

My question to the group is what would be needed to get some of the better you tube video on the local cable channels. At $4 a pop for some of the packages I'd be willing to start my own campaign. Anyone familiar with the legalites and all that of political advertising on cable? I know there would be many issues with quality of the videos and the like but right now I am just refering to what the legalities of advertising for a political candidate on cable would be. Thanks!

I think if you are funding it yourself, there are not many limits.

Here is a start.

Somebody should make some broadcast quality videos available for independent minded people.

I'm not a lawyer, but I play one on the internet... ;)

The studio will likely give you basic info, but I'm pretty sure you just need to say who's funding it, don't use copyrighted stuff (though since it's "educational," you'd likely be able to make a "fair use" argument), and don't slander anyone (although per the Zenger Decision, if it is true, it's not libel or slander).

So, that's my non-professional understanding of the issue.

The campaign should make broadcast quality ads for people to purchase. Or the campaign can make a special sponsor this ad donation page.

Think of different target audiences that might respond to Ron Paul. I think the hunting channel might be good.

The rates are very low for hunting and fishing shows.

I hear those shows really give you a great bang for your dollar.

Since Ron Paul is the strongest on the 2nd amendment he deserves to get those voters during the primary.

If you wanted to keep records as clear as possible, you would likely want to open a PAC - it's not too tough to do - I've done it once.
It could definantly be argued that an ad raising awareness of a candidate is, by definition, educational. :)
The news is the #1 choice for political ads, that also makes it nearly the most expensive of all cable advertising. I LOVE the idea of a 2nd ammendment ad running during hunting/fishing shows! :D
