View Full Version : Do we need a mascot?

I know it sounds stupid at first, but then so have other ideas that worked out in the end.
I'm not just talking a printable mascot, but something that can be dressed up as, yet isn't as scary as the V masks. More like a traditional sports mascot.

I've never heard of a politician having a mascot before and I quite frankly think it would make Ron look like a joke.

Those suits are expensive.

It'll attract furries (but repulse a larger number of people).

Those suits are really hot and start to smell.

It makes Ron Paul look even kookier than people want to paint him as.

It smacks of a uniform or a centralized idea, and many supporters will run the other way from it.

Take your pick ;)

The blimp did serve in that capacity in a sense, without being so Disney World as an adult in a furry, smelly suit.

I think that would scare the children more than the V masks. ewww.

I was aiming more towards something like this:

No, we do need an easily-recognizable logo though. I thought Obama's O logo was absolutely brilliant and I'd like to see the campaign (or grassroots) come up with a similar style of design.

We can still use images of the blimp, and blimp balloons to theme stuff.... No one has forgotten the blimp....

I thought it looked like he was a manufactured, synthetic product. So, it was suitable, but not in a positive way. And conservatives laughed like hell at it. We don't want to be 'that guy', imho.

The blimp, however, is organic.

And I like the eagle logo ronpauldesigns came up with.

I can see what you mean, however, I do believe that building a strong brand is essential to a successful mainstream campaign. Some of that requires the polish and chic only a synthetic approach can create IMO.

I like the eagle logo, but I don't think it's distinctive enough to spread the brand most effectively.

Ron Paul is raw and authentic; his entire campaign doesn’t have to be.

I was at the veterinarian the other day, and one of the people in the waiting room asked me how to tell if a dog has voted for Obama. I said I didn't know so they told me, "Look for the O under his tail."

I thought Bunchies was our mascot.

blimp, then. Some logo using a blimp. Make the logo of the blimp, not designating Ron, but the grassroots that supports him. I just really recoil from 'branding' someone whose trademark, if he has one, is individuality and authenticity. (and integrity, of course.)

So yeah... most people probably associate blimps with Indiana Jones 3, Nazis, blimps that blow up, possibly with sandwiches, also with Snoopy and Goodyear, and there's the downside that most stylized attempts at blimp logos are going to look like bombs.

How about we get people to do mascots and things that would marginalize the campaign with our competitors. Let's be fake Romney rans for a bit.

No, I seriously meant a blimp LOGO, this started with the Obama/pepsi logo idea. I meant turn the blimp into a 'logo' stylistic thing, not a real blimp. But the blowing up one is pretty cool looking.

There are all kinds of jokes there, trust me.

This kind of sentiment is a good example of why I believe it's important for a candidate's supporters to be able to make a distinction between him and his campaign.

The campaign is going to make tons of blunders over the course of the next year (because every national campaign does), and it's really not going to help anyone if its most dedicated supporters will refuse to admit those mistakes because they wouldn't want to feel like they are betraying their candidate.

I just don't like a logo. A blimp is at least a symbol of something extraordinary the grass roots did. I don't care if it is not a blimp, I'd kinda rather not have one at all. Homespun is a logo too, and campaigns and tea parties all over were stealing it after the 2008 campaign. McCain's campaign even sent emails to their supporters to ASK them to bring home made signs so they could look like they had actual grass roots enthusiasm.

Would be neat to photoshop the blimp scene above with a tea party blimp and some candidate that's schmoozing the TP vote as the Nazi. Then Rand throws him overboard. Would be funny. i definitely don't have the skills to do it, but remember the Matrix vids. "Good day, Herr Paul"

Is this a political campaign or a college football team?

Besides, there are two already:

No mascot in my opinion, it is not needed and can really only make Ron Paul look bad as people will see a mascot as immature or something to make a joke out of. People already don't like Ron Paul simply because of his supporters and they don't even try to see what he stands for.

I like it, but it's hard to do on a large scale. If we pulled it off it could attract kids and their parents while at rallies, but I'm not sure it would be a big difference.

You guys aren't thinking straight. F the mascot--what you guys need is a cheer leading squad.

If you're going to use sports league props, may as well go for the one with the biggest draw.

Seconding a Paulbot as a mascot. The mascot won't be so much for Ron Paul as for his supporters. It defuses the namecalling. Likely fairly easy to make if you keep the look simple. (cardboard box on head, cardboard box on body, some aluminum foil, and a good dose of humor)

"I am Paulbot, Paulbot I am. Paulbot is responsible for all votes gathered by Ron Paul. Paulbot is dumb, annoying, and lacks compassion. Paulbot throws snowballs at Sean Hannity. But Paulbot likes freedom. Paulbot does not like wars."

There's no way if one or two in hundred dressed up like that it doesn't garner at least some recognition by the media. And if the right humor is used, I don't really see any way of it backfiring. Even out on the streets at rallies or just handing out fliers on the street, it really couldn't hurt to have someone in a robot suit backing up a group of regularly dressed people. Sure to draw the attention of kids. And there's simply no way that if we go all out and adopt the name "Paulbot" that our opponents will be able to continue to use it. Run with it.

He showed up several places and every time he did, what does the media do? - They interviewed the damn fish!

Take that as an argument in favor of a mascot.

He was a Romney supporter, btw.
