in the UK the Lib-Dems are part of govt, in Canada the NDP is now the opposition, in France the Fascist candidate is polling 2nd, in Germany the Greens were 2nd in a state election. it seems long time 2 party systems are breaking down.

I wouldn't call Le Pen a fascist. She wants to restrict Muslim immigration and preserve the French ethnic population. Also, wants to cut ties with America, E.U., and seemingly Israel. I would probably vote for her if I was in France. Unless you're talking about another party/candidate.

I was thinking of Le Pen; didn't know her policies but MSM always calls her far right; she would be better than BB's little Sarkozy

Oh yeah that's just media demonization. I hate how according to the MSM anyone that is a racist is far-right. As if being 'racist' is a Conservative trait. Hitler, who was a Socialist in just about every way, is somehow referred to as a right-wing extremist nowadays all because he was a racist. It's unbelievable! And Le Pen seems to be more of a liberal with some nationalist tendencies.

I really like her as a politician. She's critical of American foreign policy, critical of Israeli settlements, and wants to get the hell out of the E.U. I don't view her policies as racist-- as she wants to assimilate the immigrant population rather than deport or kill them. So it's more about protecting the French language, culture, identity rather than race. In fact she's dating a mixed-race Jew and members of her party are married to blacks, jews, & north africans. Her plan for France sounds totally reasonable to me.

Isn't that party also pretty supportive of the welfare state? I remember reading a Newsweek article that left a bad taste in my mouth: Ah, here (http://www.newsweek.com/2010/09/05/how-marine-le-pen-is-changing-french-politics.html):

Put aside the usual caricature of “people in pointy hoods and the Ku Klux Klan,” Marine Le Pen says, and she still believes “the American right is much more to the right than the National Front.” She might agree with those who want to manage American frontiers more effectively and prevent massive illegal immigration, but she’s also a big believer in the state’s ability and obligation to help its people. “We feel the state should have the means to intervene,” she says. “We are very attached to public services à la française as a way to limit the inequalities among regions and among the French,” including “access for all to the same level of health care.”

Yep, that's why I identify her as a liberal with some nationalist tendencies. She's good when it comes to keeping immigrants out, preserving French culture, (not race) and is against intervention in Islamic nations. But at the end of the day she's just a liberal. You can't expect much out of European nations in terms of economic or personal freedoms.
