In keeping with GenerationEngage’s principle that “democracy is a dialogue, not a monologue,” they are trying to give some non-college youth an opportunity to have a conversation with presidential candidates.
With support from Google and Apple, they have partnered with the League of Rural Voters to host a national iChat conversation with presidential candidates on Oct. 27. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards and Ron Paul will each take a turn fielding videoconference questions from three communities across the country — San Jose, Calif.; Raleigh, N.C.; and Ames, Iowa — focused on the infrastructural disparities facing rural and inner-city communities.
Ironically, the candidates will be on a college campus, Iowa State University in Ames. But Talbott promises that the audience will be composed of community members of all ages, including non college youth.
