The Nevada Day Parade is a mandatory stop on any Nevada politician's campaign route.

But despite the Silver State's inaugural early caucus this year, none of the presidential candidates will be around to help Nevadans celebrate their entry to the union.

That doesn't mean the candidates' campaigns will ignore crowds expected to flood Carson Street on Saturday morning.

"We will definitely have a presence out there," said Hilarie Grey, Nevada spokeswoman for U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton. "The people who turnout to Carson City are engaged in the life of the state and the caucus is big for us."

Nevada Democrats and Republicans are holding early presidential caucuses on Jan. 19, drawing unprecedented attention from the candidates. But the Nevada Day Parade, a campaign mainstay for candidates running in statewide elections, hasn't quite made their radar screens.

Parade rules also have complicated things.

Candidates are not allowed to display the words "vote for" on their floats. And when the presidential campaigns started inquiring about an entry, parade officials discovered their rules only allow Nevada elected officials to participate.

"That caught us completely by surprise," said Reg Creasey, president of Nevada Day Inc.

Creasey said he hopes the board amends that rule so that presidential candidates can participate in the future.

"I hope we address this issue next year. We should be playing an active role," he said.

Volunteers for U.S. Sen. Joe Biden managed to get an entry approved before organizers realized the rules didn't allow out-of-state politicians.

Since Biden's entry had already been approved, they didn't want to kick him out, Creasey said.

But campaign volunteers will be working the crowds for Democrats U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, former U.S. Sen. John Edwards and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.

Volunteers for Republican candidates U.S. Rep. Ron Paul and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney also will be working the crowds. They'll be passing out stickers, T-shirts and campaign fliers......

Dr. Paul, come out to Vegas baby! Check out the largest oolitical billboard in the country with your name on it. You can win this state!
