Higher gas prices naturally spur energy innovation, this seems perfectly reasonable to me. You don't need the government to subsidize alternative energy because the price of gas is a signal about how much alternative energy production should happen.

Typical of the left wing. They have been calling for higher gasoline prices for the past 40 years. The gasoline oligopoly has been more than happy to oblige them.

Demand for gasoline is pretty inelastic. In this situation, hoping that higher prices will solve the problem is foolish. It is like hoping that a new excise tax on the entire economy will spur economic growth.

Well, looking on the bright side, when the economy double dips it will be easier to get rid of Obama. :p

Obama needs high gas prices. The government makes more money the higher the price is. Which is more than what the oil companies are making.

Curious, how does the government make more money? IIRC, the taxes on gasoline are fixed cents per gallon, not a percentage. The government cronies certainly make more money.
