For what it's worth, not everyone is convinced Trump was born in the USA either: 43% say he definitely was born here, and 20% say he probably was; 7% say he definitely or probably was born in another country. Nearly three in 10 say they don't know enough to say.

The poll of 1,013 adults, taken Wednesday to Saturday, has a margin of error of +/-4 percentage points.

Haha

For some people confusion may come from the fact they see him as an alien. Whereas in fact, north America habitat is suitable to birth a wide variety of interesting species.

Sounds like 57% of those polled are racists that hate white people.

Yep. They just want to hold the white man down.

Guess so. Or it hasn't been effectively proven to them that Trump was born in the U.S., and for most of them his pigmentation has nothing to do with it.

Probably the latter.

Or it's blowback. They don't like him and they'll agree with negative comments about him whether they believe it or not.

I think the same is true of Obama by the way. You say something negative about him and a lot of people who don't like him will agree with it (whether they believe it or not). That is why I don't trust these polls.

I never said the majority of them are racist. I don't believe that. I do believe that some of the negative attacks on Obama do have racial undertones, to act like that entirely doesn't exist is naive. Not when we have states where the majority of Republicans think inter racial dating should be illegal.

I think to be sure we should send dannno to investigate in Jamaica, although something tells me he'd be more interested investigating Jamaican "agriculture".

Not when we have states where the majority of Republicans think inter racial dating should be illegal.

Where did you see that?

(Not that I disagree that there are some racists going after Obama)

Someone who thinks interracial marriage should be illegal acts discriminatory to both races.

Mississippi Republicans favor banning interracial marriage 46-40%

That still isn't racism towards blacks. If anything it's equally discriminatory to both races, as I have previously pointed out.

That isn't a majority.

More people favor banning then being ok with it. Either way it is what it is.

What portion of that 46% who favor banning interracial marriage think Obama was born outside the US? I'm going to guess it's a significant number.

What portion of GOP primary voters (not "Republicans" as everyone keeps saying) in Mississippi think marrying outside one's race should be illegal? 46%.

Isn't it interesting how the way you phrase a question has some bearing on things? Do you understand the demographics of most GOP primary voters? Do you understand that this was not a poll among Republicans as to whether or not steps should actually be taken to ban interracial marriage? Or is it so important to steer this towards your hypothesis that it doesn't really matter what the population asked was, or how they were asked, etc.?

This is seriously no better than the "blacks voted for Obama because he's black and whites because they felt guilty" crap based on "polls." Worse, in fact, because at least the latter were based on exit polls, which could be construed as relevant. How this GOP primary voter poll, which I can find very little sampling evidence on, has gotten so much traction is beyond me. I guess because people want it to be true.

It still isn't a majority. Furthermore, as Melissa was pointing out, we are still not aware of all the factors behind this poll. If it was a typical automated poll, then what you might have is a significant number of people who thought that they were asking about homosexual marriage and not interracial marriage. I mean, after all, who would ask about interracial marriage almost 50 years after laws against it were repealed? It's difficult to imagine 46% of GOP primary voters in Mississippi actually fessing up to wanting to ban interracial marriage, even if they were opposed.
