At the time of the bank’s failure, Iceland refused to cover the losses. But the UK and Netherlands nonetheless have demanded that Iceland repay them for the “loan” as a condition for admission into the European Union.

In response, the Icelandic people have told Europe to go pound sand. The final vote was 103,207 to 69,462, or 58.9 percent to 39.7 percent. “Taxpayers should not be responsible for paying the debts of a private institution,” said Sigriur Andersen, a spokeswoman for the Advice group that opposed the bailout.

Me too.

And just as a reminder. This is how they first told their PM that bailing out the foreign banks was not an option.

That is their prime minister's house. Those are protestors with road flares. The next day the PM veto'd their version of the banker bailout. IIRC, it was the first veto by a PM in decades.

It's encouraging to see a people rise up against extortion by neo-colonialists and crony capitalists.

Never mind. I know already. :( Iceland is still a free nation. We are one step removed from communist China.

How hard is it to move there? I like fish. Not that thrilled with extreme cold, but willing to adjust. The Icelanders seem to be the highest concentration of people in the world that know the true face of the enemy.

And I could make a comment about us spineless, gutless Americunts who would never have the balls to do something like that.

Then again, if you tried something like that here, these guys would show up in 2.5 seconds and happily light your ass up.

So when is Obama hitting the airwaves to warn the world of the new Hitler that must be stopped at all costs before he begins his genocidal rampage on the peaceful Icelandic people?

We must act.

It would have been longer and more profanity laced.

You can bet that the best and brightest minds in the Pentagon are as we speak dreaming up ways to "sell" a war with Iceland to the American people. Unfortunately for them, it's gonna be pretty fucking hard cause they can't use their usual trick of cashing in on racism or xenophobia like they normally do, as the Icelandic people are mostly white and Christian. Also, a false flag incident would be met with extreme skepticism even by the dumbest of sheep as Iceland has never expressed even the vaguest interest in attacking the US (mainly because we're not over there fucking shit up).
