False

A 2007 statement on Paul’s campaign website said he "never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution." But an examination of his record showed that Paul, a physician who has drawn the nickname "Dr. No," went too far in saying "never" — a tough standard to meet in part because he’d already served about two decades in Congress. PolitiFact found six Paul votes for government actions that the Constitution did not "expressly authorize," such as his vote to change federal law governing organ transplants to make it easier for people to receive donated kidneys. One expert speculated that "a hundred other examples" existed.

What part of the Constitution mandated that organ transplants be difficult to receive again?

It's funny how the press conflates laws passed by the federal government with the Constitution, as if just because they're passed, that automatically make them Constitutional, ergo, voting to neuter them them suddenly becomes an unconstitutional vote.

Pants on Fire

Appearing on MSNBC in January, Paul said that instability in Iraq was forcing religious minorities to flee the country. "Today there was an article, I think, on New York Times — the last Christians are about to leave there," he said. We found a Times article about the last Christian family in an Iraq city considering leaving their hometown. Also, the number of Iraqi Christians has dropped significantly since 2003. But thousands remain in the country. Paul’s statement is not just hyperbole — it’s ridiculous.

A misstatement, maybe. Hyperbole, perhaps. Ridiculous, no, especially if the trend continues. Here's the full ASSessment (http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2011/feb/07/ron-paul/rep-ron-paul-says-last-christians-are-about-leave-/) by the same:

A Dec. 17 briefing by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees says "the Christian communities in Baghdad and Mosul have started a slow but steady exodus" since the October attacks. "In addition, our offices in neighboring Syria, Jordan and Lebanon are reporting a growing number of Iraqi Christians arriving," the briefing says.

A May report by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, a federal body that makes policy recommendations to the president, secretary of state and Congress. According to the report, the Iraqi government "continues to commit and tolerate severe abuses of freedom of religion or belief, particularly against the members of Iraq’s smallest, most vulnerable religious minorities," which include Christians.

"The violence, forced displacement, discrimination, marginalization and neglect suffered by members of these groups threaten these ancient communities’ very existence in Iraq," according to the report. "Today, only half of the pre-2003 Iraqi Christian community is believed to remain in the country, with Christian leaders warning that the result of this flight may be the ‘end of Christianity in Iraq." The report says that out of approximately 1.4 million Christians estimated to live in Iraq in 2003, only about 500,000 remain.

No one is saying Politifact is not liberal. I take it all with a grain of salt.

I should do more of that myself, but I just can't stand the spin and bias. It's one of our biggest challenges.

Every news outlet comes with a bias. Human nature.

I'm going to rename this site politihack.com

Their site claims that they've been awarded a Pulitzer prize. I suspect that it's for fiction.

What's sad, it's a great idea if they could be run by a non-partisan group.
