Mexico wants to sue U.S. gun makers

CBS News has learned that the Mexican Government has retained an American law firm to explore filing civil charges against U.S. gun manufacturers and distributors over the flood of guns crossing the border into Mexico.

Sources say Mexico's frustration with U.S. efforts to stop the flow of weapons has pushed them into this novel approach. The law firm is looking at charges that may include civil RICO. The contract was signed on November 2, 2010 by a representative of Mexico's Attorney General, at their Washington embassy.

Maybe the Mexican government should worry more about stopping the crime in their country than suing companies in ours.

Maybe they should talk with the ATF crew instead.

This. I don't know how this suit works unless they actually go to court and say that the arms merchants own the U.S. government, including the ATF. That would be quite a show, if they did, but I can't imagine them pulling it off.

Last I heard, only 15% of the guns found in MX have US origin. Guess the sources for the other 85% don't have a friendly civil legal system.

So the war on drugs has nothing to do with all of the crime they are experiencing? Perhaps if they made those drugs legal, most of that crime would end. There is nothing wrong with people having guns, the problem is what some people are doing with those guns.

A couple of thoughts

(1) Discovery is going to look really bad for the ATF, as the manufacturers will claim their products went to Mexico with the express permission if the US Govt. and the course of action is for Mexico to sue the US Govt.

(2) The last armed revolution that overthrew the Mexican government, was in 1910, before that, I think is=t was 1863, and before that, in the 1850s ... but the point is not that detail, but that Mexico is overdue for another one.
