Alternative interpretation: More tea party affiliated members (%) support cutting medicare and medicaid than voters affiliated with both Republican and Democrat parties as well as independent voters.

Lies, damned lies and statistics.

Exactly what I was going to post. And if you separated the two, polling Medicare separately from Medicaid, the numbers would be even better.

The problem is all cuts to medicare suggested so far have left in place the corporate cronyism of the big Pharma and medical industrial complex boondoggles and ration care or give defined money. This freezes in the escalating cost curve but transfers to individuals the risk of the escalating cost. In Mass, for example, they are thinking of letting 50 year olds out of the mandate for insurance -- because there is no product for insurance for 50 year olds that many can now afford to buy with all the regulations on what has to be covered. A medicare solution has to get the government interference in the market out so the cost can go down, not just stick individuals more directly for the cost of the government's parasitic relations with corporations. Paul Ryan's plan is just like Obamacare in preserving boondoggles to corporation by making the 'cherry picking' cheap stuff plentiful and REQUIRED to be covered, so costs soar and those items use up the entire budget.

I think 'cutting' isn't the word to use, because it really needs reform. The cost curve must be allowed to go down.

Very astute observation.
