I hate to say it, but a lot Ron Paul signs don't last on the NH roadsides for too long. A lot of times they get tossed a few feet into the woods, or high grass. In an effort to keep people from doing this, I thought I'd use 3M spray adhesive on the sign, but the test sign turned kind of brownish, so now I'm using..

Make a trap! Yanking out a sign leads a giant cage to roll out of the trees and over the perpetrator. :D

funny little side note on this subject. My fathers friend had his little yard sign stolen. So what did he do? He got a 4x8 and put it on his garage :)

With my luck the signs will attract small vermin and such.

I got a car magnet stolen today at Olive Garden. I was pissed.

I don't know if it was a Fred supporter, a thief, or a punk.

There was a YouTube with enterprising folks demonstrating the art of nailing a Ron Paul sign 10' high on a telephone pole without a ladder. Under cover of dark they used a 2 wire prong to lift the sign and a hammer on a long pole to bang in nails. Pretty clever - but they were incriminating themselves by posting on YouTube

Put RP signs up higher than the average person can steal.

Telephone pole, a tree on aside the highway.

Especially putting one a top one of these prickly cedar trees here in TX, no one but a RP supporter would get into one of these to support his/her candidate.:)

You may need a ladder, but your signs will last longer me thinks.

Crisco, though creative, I honestly don't think will work.

Crisco is made of transfats. No known animal other than humans will eat it.

Mix this with the crisco.

They won't mess with them again.

The melting point of Crisco is around 35–45°C. What you can do is put it in a dispenser bottle and let it set in the sun till it melts. Then add the Skunk sent and mix. After you place the sign squirt it with the mixture.

skunk scent is good and would be great to contaminate anyone touching the sign.

Placing them high enough so that they can't reach them works too.

surrounding the sign with dog crap or something similarly noxious may work too as they have to walk through it to get the sign.

Uh, I'd be careful with the skunk scent. Great idea but wouldn't be popular.

"God it reaks everytime we go by one of those signs!"

In California we had signs put up professionally thirty feet up on the poles and people would take them down at three in the morning.

There were also professional sign thieves who drove around all day and took down signs. We figured it out who it was after a while for the yard signs. We never did catch the guys who would take down the signs thirty feet up in the air.

Also they will try to break into the headquarters in the early AM as well.

Once you figure out who it is get a video camera and record and either put on youtube or give the evidence to the police.

Usually they were liberal activists.

extra large cans of the generic brand of WD40 should work good and be easier to put on ..

Mix a small amount of hair dye with crisco in a large batch, then coat the edges

that should keep it hydrated, and dye hands and clothes

also, I read horse makeup will dye your hands.

Wonderful ideas, guys.

I recently had three signs I put up stolen... it was pretty discouraging to me. At least one was up for a month, but the last two were in the most visible part of town and I had waited to put them up so I could make sure to do it right.

I live about a mile from John Edwards, so I'm pretty sure it was an Edwards supporter who is guilty. I had put another one at the entrance to the subdivision that houses Edwards' campaign headquarters, and I haven't checked but it's probably gone as well.

The next signs I put up will definitely have liberal amounts of Crisco added.

Have people noticed any difference between official-looking signs and handmade signs? Are people more or less likely to take handmade signs?

Has anyone thought of making signs with spikes on the side? :)

I wish I had barb wire to put on my signs, I am sure it would be a huge hit. I can "get behind" this idea....

I tried WD-40 on a sample sign and it didn't stay slimy enough.
