There are still over 600 local Meetup groups with 87,000 members from the 2008 campaign. The National Run Ron Paul Meetup is a new tool to organize on a national level, so be sure to spread the word to your current groups about this day and get current members to join this new effort. It is an addition to your local meetup that allows coordination among all groups on a national scale.

To get involved, go to meetup.com/ronpaul to find your local Run Ron Paul Day Meetup group. If there is no group in your area, start one yourself! Once other folks join up, you can collaboratively choose a location (community center, restaurant, pub, etc.) and a time to meet. Anyone can step up to be the organizer to help move the process along.

This is unfortunately a mega FAIL! Meetup started this thing but only allows the person that started it to communicate the event. There is no oportunity for local groups to keep on doing stuff if this sole person does not announce another event.

From a e-mail (longish) I sent to meetup and two of the organizers:

" There is also a complete disconnect between this platform and the existing Ron Paul hierarchy. So far, 313 "groups" have signed on to the http://www.meetup.com/ronpaul hierarchy. Most with a single member. There are 420 members total. While I'm sure there is some overlap, this is not representative of the 80,919 members in the remaining 611 meetups in the http://ronpaul.meetup.com hierarchy. This is not particularly helpful."

Basically they are starting from scratch with a 5 day lead time. This event is dead on arrival :(

Sigh....

I was afraid there would be a glitch.... can you just rope in the other meetups for this event, and worry about any new platform later? I think the old platform was ok if there were a centralized place people could look for centralized stuff....

We tried that for rally for the republic - 30+ volunteers, custon software mailing platform, weeks and weeks of effort - we reached just over half the meetups. This is a total FAIL!

The only way this will happen is with meetups help and they are dragging their heals
