This guy is a neocon. His email sounds like a cop out to me:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me to share your views on the Federal Reserve. By hearing your thoughts and concerns on the issues, I am better able to represent you in Congress.
The authority of the Federal Reserve is derived from Congress and thus Congress has oversight over the Federal Reserve’s activities. Currently, the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, the Federal Reserve banks, and the Federal Reserve System as a whole are audited regularly by an independent outside auditor as well as the Government Accountability Office (GAO). However, the GAO does not have the authority to audit the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decisions and operations.
Congressman Ron Paul (TX) introduced H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, on February 26, 2009 to reform the manner in which the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System is audited by the Comptroller General of the United States. This bill did not reach the House floor for a vote in the 111th Congress. However, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which President Obama signed into law in July 2010, included a provision requiring the GAO to audit the Federal Reserve’s emergency lending program. I look forward to reviewing the Comptroller General’s findings once the audit is complete.
On January 26, 2011, Congressman Paul introduced the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2011, H.R. 459, to repeal the condition that requires the appropriate federal regulatory agency to consent in writing before the Comptroller General can conduct an audit. Similarly to H.R. 1207, H.R. 459 also requires the Comptroller General to conduct a full audit of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Reserve Banks before the end of 2012, followed by a detailed report to Congress.
As your representative, I care deeply about ensuring that the federal government and federal agencies exercise fiscal responsibility in these harsh economic times. The Federal Reserve should not be exempt from this standard but should be held accountable for how it spends the hard-earned dollars of American taxpayers. Therefore, I support auditing the Federal Reserve. While I do not serve on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the body to which H.R. 459 has been referred, please be assured that I will keep your views in mind should this bill reach the House floor for a vote.
Again, thank you for contacting me. It is an honor to represent you in the U.S. House of Representatives. Please do not hesitate to contact me if my office can be of assistance to you on any issue of importance.
Sincerely,
Adam Kinzinger
Member of Congress
