OK, now I think he's at least going to announce an exploratory committee....

I could be wrong.... but does CSPAN usually cover this sort of thing?

Cspan.org, not the CSpan TV Channel.

I'm mistaken. I see Ron Paul listed as the speaker for 1 hour 30 minutes on CSPAN's "Road to the White House" starting 6 PM eastern (20 minutes from now).

Yeah. Road to The White House was around in 2007-2008 as well. Trump is going be on CSPAN Saturday night.

Damn! Not captioned! I'd appreciate a play-by-play if possible. But all Ron speeches are virtually the same anyway....

He gave a little history of his interest in monetary policy, now speaking of ending Brettan Woods, how the stock market and Chamber of Commerce loved it and he felt he needed to speak out politically. So he ran, even though his wife warned him he might end up getting elected. But he figured that since he wouldn't play 'Santa Claus' he wouldn't be elected.

sailingaway

He says monetary policy isn't the most important issue to him, liberty is, but monetary policy impacts so much.

Watching now... he's giving Congress hell about not following the Constitution. Get 'em, RP!! :)

You know.... Ron may not be the world's slickest speaker...

But he gives you so much substance next to all the rest of them. He discusses issues with you, he isn't pandering because he thinks you are too dumb to take it in.

Yep. There are some folks looking on INTENTLY. Almost like they don't quite agree with him but their interest is piquied (sp) by what he is saying.

It's amazing how much I as a Deaf person can understand Ron. I'm so used to him and what he says that I can make out 50%-70% of what he is saying at all times.

Ron: "...we're over in Libya 'protecting our interests.....' well, we don't have any..... how many of you in here have interests that need to be protected in Libya? ......Maybe if you have an interest that needs to be protected in Libya, YOU should go over and protect them....."

And 9/11 as an attack on the 4th amendment.

Was he the guy with the bumper sticker on his knee? I wasn't really looking at the audience, but I noticed that.

Some of the audience is NOT happy with Ron... some is.....

but the place sure looks packed....

He's getting a really good response in general. Is this a "Ron Paul only" event or part of a bigger conference? If it's a general audience, he's knocking it out of the park.

What was that applause point he made about Truman causing the audience to crack up? In particular, a young black man and a young white woman were shown applauding and laughing hysterically, while the older guy next to them sat stone faced.

I'm not sure if that elderly woman in the audience with glasses shaking her head in disgust with what RP is saying is doing so because she agrees with him or disagrees with him.

Hitting it out of the park, as usual.

I could not be more excited that his 2012 platform is going to be exactly the same as it was last time.

Go get 'em, Ron.

....signing baseballs.....

there's no one else remotely like him running for President.

That there are so many pretenders disgusts me. And that so many people don't know the difference is worse.

It wasn't a speech, he was just talking to them. It may end up shaping into a speech though, and I agree it is a good one.

OUCH! - what a campaign screw up! I can see the C-SPAN control room now - like FUCK! we're going to have 20 minutes of dead air - well, punt and watch him sign autographs for 20 minutes...

He could have gotten a lot more message out in that time. He's got the full hour and a half and they are blowing it. I guess no one told him.

Yeah, they are cutting it short - he lost 15 minutes of free national face time. Don't expect the other candidates to screw up like that. :(

You can't be serious. This stuff shows the personality of RP interacting with his supporters. Very few people watch C-Span anyway, and those that needed the full 90 minutes instead of 70 minutes probably aren't voting for him anyway!

I based it on one commentator saying Shem was the one with the bumper sticker on his knee, and made the connection that the dude was Shem. My bad.

Someone signalled him that he didn't have more time for questions. Maybe before CSPAN was going to be there he had commitments in place....dunno. I agree it was a screw up by staff not to maximize the time if they knew he had it. I hadn't heard this would be televised before pretty close before the event though, and I wonder if it wasn't a last minute opportunity. If so, they might not have had all the details. Ron was voting on the budget today.

A little bit fine - but this is a series - each candidate gets an hour and a half. No, this time is important.

Really pissis me off that Obama is talking during what should have been his time. :( They could have at least given the time to a republican or better yet call in about the speech.

The guy with the bumper sticker on his knee had more hair. It was a printed 2012, not handwritten, also. I'm not sure it was shem, I just thought he looked familiar then someone said they saw shem....

The most recent was a March 2009 survey, which estimated 39 million Americans watch C-SPAN regularly

For comparison:

Super Bowl breaks MASH viewership record, CBS says

The network said the Saints 31-17 victory beat the record set in 1983 with the "MASH" series finale, also broadcast by CBS. (CBS 24.34, +0.09, +0.37%) Sunday's game in Miami was seen by 106.5 million viewers, the network said.

Wow. I'm surprised at that figure. That's what, 10% of the American population?

Bit above... 11 or 12%

It's a bit more impressive when you consider that C-SPAN is only available in 1 in 3 homes...
