Can't make it today. Can't justify a 3 hour round trip today.

i have a bad feeling that it is going to suck big time, rarely do I enjoy movies adapted from favorite books.

I read somewhere that it sucked. But I still want to support any movie that has a free market theme. Maybe some will see the value of making more:)

Is it any good?

It was supposed to promote liberty minded ideas and expose neoconism. Has anyone seen it yet and post some recommendation without revealing the plot.

Edit

No longer considering to buy a a ticket, it appears profits from movie sales would go to a major league war monger neocon.

It only has 6% rating from Film critics, so far, according to rotten tomatoes.

Most comments are about poor acting and a small budget. One even went as far as to cite that they just don't like Rand.

With the statist media's panning it and the collectivists' gleeful reaction to its poor reviews, it makes me want to see it ten times. Are they trying to goad us into making it cult classic (http://dailycaller.com/2011/04/10/why-the-new-atlas-shrugged-movie-could-become-a-cult-classic/)?

I like Angela Keaton's short review (http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/79342.html).

Imagine if the producers of As the World Turns and Dirty Sexy Money got together and rewrote your favorite novel for the Facebook generation.

It’s not as bad as you think. It’s not bad at all. Dare say, given the timing, it’s actually important. [...]

A few hours ago I had the honor of viewing the first LA screening of Atlas Shrugged, Part 1. On April 15th, Every Ron Paul fan under 30 should get a seat for the opening.

The YAL kids can get the Objectivist rap elsewhere. What young libertarians need are life lessons wrapped in an easy to watch package...

Thank you.
Although I think sites that have such confirmed neocon liars as celeberated pundits should be read with few mines of salt.

I saw it yesterday. I had never read the book but my date did, and she thought they did a really good job. It has to be remembered that the film doesn't have the huge budget that many other films enjoy. There were some parts of the acting that were a bit off, but overall I thought the actors did a good job.

My review: Atlas Shrugged - The meaning and the movie (http://www.nolanchart.com/article8542.html)
quick points:
+ faithful to the events of the book
+ actors do a good job of representing their characters

- no highs or lows, the tone and pace stay overly level
- events and smaller but important figures don't always get much lead-up or introduction, so people who haven't read the book may become mystified of why some things are happening

Verdict: watch it if you like the book, be open to watching it if you haven't but be aware that it won't blow you away. DO read the novel if you haven't, b/c that most certainly will blow you away

The best way to have done the film would have been Paddy Chayefsky-style, as with Network, since the heart of the book are the soliloquies and speeches given by the major characters. Give some major stars the chance to show they could do a monologue based performance, even if it was for only one or two scenes each. Instead, this version mainly dramatizes the events of the book, and not the more important ideas emphasized in the rants.

I enjoyed it. Was fairly faithful to the tone/message of the book.

I don't know why people were so excited about a movie version. I've been told it's because the book is "too difficult." If the book's too difficult, then a movie true to the book is going to be torture.

The only way to make it into a popular, far-reaching movie is to change it, which defeats the purpose. It's a movie for fans of the book. That never bodes well.

I think that alone would make it popular.

2. Atlas Shrugged: 35th Anniversary Edition

But I don't think it's going to be watched just by fans of the book. Lots of people who never read the book are watching it, and I can assure you many of them will pick up a copy of the novel, so I expect the movie to be popular and far-reaching.

That's not news. Hollywood is infested with leftists. I expected this movie to get horrible reviews regardless of quality. That's not to say it still may suck though.

I recently finished the book.

I probably won't see it in the theater, but will pick up the DVD at some point.
