ter former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker was appointed in 1979, the consumer price index surged into the double digits, causing the now revered Fed Chief to double the benchmark interest rate in order to break the back of inflation. Using the methodology in place at that time puts the CPI back near those levels.

And unemployment is actually closer to 22% (http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate_data/unemployment-charts).

Inflation is roughly 9.5% or so (http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate_data/inflation-charts) according to Shadowstats as well, so there you have it.

I hope this becomes a big issue during the election. The people can see and feel the inflation happening, but the gov't is trying to BS us all.
