Jesse Benton, director of Paul’s LibertyPAC, told POLITICO that the new account was opened in anticipation of creating a formal presidential committee. The small step toward a bid is the same kind taken recently by Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, but it stops short of an official exploratory committee filed with the FEC.

Man, how many 'in between steps' are there? Still, according to this, this it looks like this account 'could become a presidential campaign account', so maybe money donated into it rolls over? By the way, it was on MY front page google news, but I add 'politics, ron paul, rand paul' to my front page in google chrom, so it may or may not be on YOUR front page...

You have all the information I have at the moment. It sounds like libertypac is 'still being used' to pay for travel, so it sounds like this is different, though.
