View Full Version : Budget Deficit Video Idea

I was going to make my first youtube video visualizing the budget deficit
& what a joke the Repub & Dem cuts are.

My idea was to withdraw $1,650 from my bank in one-dollar bills. Each
$1 bill would represent 1 billion dollars. I would then take $38 which
would represent the $38 billion in cuts & place it next to the pile of cash
to show how insignificant it actually is. And then I was thinking about
using my photoshop skills to make a stack of $14,300 which would
represent our debt of 14.3 trillion & have it next to the $1,650.

I just want to make sure my facts are right so I don't have to redo any
of this.

Is the national debt at 14.2 or 14.3 trillion?
What was the original amount of the Dems budget cuts?
What was the original amount of the Repubs budget cuts?
The 38 billion is what the Dems & Repubs agreed to, right?

Any other suggestions on improving this would be appreciated.

I've got $500 in one dollar bills so far. Still got a ways to go. Prior to their
agreement didn't the Democrats originally want to cut 6 billion while the
Republicans wanted to cut 100 billion?

I don't think the charts in that video have that visceral panache that
a stack of real money would have.

I finally got the $1,650 in one dollar bills. I'm actually surprised
at how big this pile of cash is.

Here's a pic from the video:

The video turned out great. I'm having some problems with trying to
create a youtube account so it may take a little time before I can
upload it though.

I finally got the video uploaded. What do you think?

PS. I can't figure out how to embed the youtube video into this thread.
I clicked the "Share" button.
Then I clicked the "Embed" button.
Then I copied the code over here but the code just shows up in the post
instead of the youtube video. I tried it multiple times with the different
options (old embed code, use HTTPS, etc).

Any help would be appreciated.

http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/index.html

(quoting everything from that page...)

What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts"...

A billion dollars...

A hundred billion dollars...

Eight hundred billion dollars...

One TRILLION dollars...

What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I'd take Google Sketchup out for a test drive and try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

We'll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slighty fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/bill.jpg

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2" thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/packet.jpg

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/pile.jpg

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet...

http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/pallet.jpg

And $1 BILLION dollars... now we're really getting somewhere...

http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/pallet_x_10.jpg

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we've been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.

You ready for this?

It's pretty surprising.

Go ahead...

Scroll down...

Ladies and gentlemen... I give you $1 trillion dollars...

http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/pallet_x_10000.jpg

Notice those pallets are double stacked.
...and remember those are $100 bills.

So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase "trillion dollars"... that's what they're talking about.

I made something similar to that a couple years ago. I found out that
one million bucks in $100 bills stacked is exactly 40 inches tall. I used
that info to photoshop a big brick of cash in my living room, 98 million
dollars to be exact & I ended up with this:

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p48/fmello/98_million.jpg

From that I extrapolated a pile of those bricks of cash on a football field
that showed 1.2 trillion dollars and ended up with this:

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p48/fmello/Football-Field.gif

As you can see that single brick is on the bottom left of the gif next to
the marching band guy as a size reference. That triple-stack of cash is
10 feet tall. And finally, using that huge pile of cash as a reference I
made the gif below which was the U.S. debt at the time that Ron Paul
was running for President:

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p48/fmello/football_field_debt.gif

I haven't made any more gifs since but now that our U.S. Debt is over
14.2 trillion dollars, if I was to extend that ginormous pile even taller,
you would be able to see the top of that pile of debt from the parking
lot. I find that really disturbing.

an improvement would be to talk about or show what a billion dollars looks like. Overall, very good!

To embed a video here:

[ video=youtube; -put hash here - no spaces ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= - the hash - no spaces [/video]

there should be no space between the "[" and video= at the beginning - broke it so it would show up.

here is your link:

this part is the hash:

Why did you use a youtube site in Belgum?

Got it to work. As for the Belgium location, when I clicked on the
"Share" button under the youtube video, that Belgium address is
listed under the part "Link to this video:". Why didn't the embed
code that is on the youtube page work though? I tried it multiple
times with the different options but none of them worked.

Quick question. Why don't embedded youtube videos on this website show up on my iphone?
They show up on the campaignFORliberty.com site & others & if I remember correctly I used
to see them on this website. I think it was before the website upgrade.
