I noticed some discussion on another thread about the "Civil War"... er, that is, "The War Between the States," ... well, the "War of Northern Aggression"...........

Which got me to wondering... What would you all say is the appropriate way to label the war from 1861-1865?

Poll included. Explain your answers if you like.

You forgot to include the name "War of the Rebellion," which is the name given to it in the official record of the war from the Federal government.

Whatever you want to call it, it is not a civil war. A civil war is a war that is fought between two factions for control of the government.

Two factions were fighting for control of the southern government.

Anything but the War of Northern Aggression works for me. War of the Rebellion is one I haven't heard before.

The Late Unpleasantness.

A Civil War suggests a struggle to control the central state/government.
