These are tough times for Minnesota schools.

In Lakeville, for example, the school board recently announced wrenching cuts of almost $7 million. Ninety-four teachers will lose their jobs, arts programs will suffer and a school will be closed.

There was wailing and gnashing of teeth, but the board set its jaw: There's not a dime for anything extra.

Unless you've got an ax to grind with white folks. Then the money spigots open.

The Lakeville schools are sending a delegation of teachers to the 12th annual "White Privilege Conference" at the Bloomington Sheraton from Aug. 13-16. The district is shelling out $160 a pop -- plus $125 a day for teacher subs -- for this "white guilt" festival.

Organizers say they expect attendees from a number of other Minnesota districts.

Watch for the follow-up. They'll probably be forced to admit the federal government is bribing them well for this.

And starting today, I expect the .gov to deliver four years of it big time. We could be doing some serious study of the war, and the consequences of the totally mismanaged "redestruction", and what could have happened if the freed slaves had been given education instead of being exploited as a cheaper labor source than the Irish immigrants.

Yeah. And there's sure no suggestion people should be screened for legal status for benefits like education, in California, where you can't say it wouldn't make a difference for the budget....living here and watching what they are doing to the schools and senior benefits in order avoid that issue, it is pretty telling where their priorities are. They could get rid of so much concern with illegal immigration if they would just say they couldn't take taxpayer funded benefits....

And while some say the public school and senior benefits shouldn't exist, that would mean the taxes shouldn't either, and by the time people living here legally have kids in the schools or are eligible for a hot meal at home or whatever, they have paid through the nose for it in taxes.
