No, I didn't harass anybody (not anybody that would take offense at least). Everybody at work had to take this little training session. Basically, rat out anything that may be taken offensively no matter how subtle it may be. Victim perception is much more important in the legal sense than offender intention. To decide whether or not something may be offensive, apply the "reasonable person standard". Would a reasonable person be offended by this?

I am by far the youngest person working in my division at my company. I work with old school people and 95% of the conversation is shit-talking. I love it.

Imagine if everyone took this training session and accompanying video seriously and reported everything that may be taken offensively. Work would stop and pretty much every male member of my company would have to have a meeting with HR. Then we'd pretty much become a workplace where nobody says anything of interest, much less anything of comical value.

Is this really what we've come to in Amerrrrka?

Join the club man. I probably have the foulest mouth at work. Somebody will say something and ill take to the next level.

If you keep saying stupid obscene stuff eventually everybody will know you are messing around even when you arnt :D

I think the majority of people take that training with a grain of salt. If they only knew what was being said in the workplace.

Well, too bad y'all didn't apply the 'Reasonable Person Standard' to that meeting. Then y'all would have walked out early and spent the time more productively.

We had to watch a video, which was stupid and hilarious at the same time.

Two women were watching triple gape porn on the computer at work and giggling WHILE EATING POPCORN. Then the fat girl walks in and is like, "Is that.....Is that A PORN WEBSITE?!?!?!?!?!? That's disgusting." Yes, that qualifies as harassment.

You mean by walking around the office and grabbing womens tits and then cupping my balls and asking women around the office if this looks swollen to them?

I don't need to be trained on how to harass people.

Well yeah... I could see that as being a bit of a hostile work environment for a variety of reasons. First off, the chick going by and eavesdropping by looking over their shoulders at what's on their computer: RUDE! Using the computer for anything not related to work is forbidden at many jobs (which should include the chicks at work who look at shoes and diet recipes and other such crap all day). Eating at your desk is nasty because it gets company property all disgusting (some of those keyboards should just be thrown away, there's so many crumbs and so much grease and Lord knows what else).

The funny part is how people react to those situations.

If I were really uncomfortable at work, I would find another job. I wouldn't sue the workplace for making me feel uneasy because someone likes looking at boobs or telling crude jokes. If they were actually doing something criminal that'd be another story, but most of these suits are insane. "OMG there's a calendar in my boss' office and the women are in BIKINIS!!!" is not a professional attitude to adopt. Get a different job. If everyone else is happy working there, and you are not, please don't force them all to change into lifeless robots so that you can feel cozy.

More of the same old Submit and Conform bullshit. Do what we tell you to do and think what we tell you to think.

Oh, by the way, that isnt a Penis between your legs any more. The correct term is now a Man-gina or He-twat.

People that actually believe that we need this kind of shit are the same wussified people who think that the best thing to do for the system is to do what they are told. They believe their slave owners actually have their best interests in mind. Its a shame because its these very people that we need to wake the fuck up and realize that the system is out to destroy them.

Well nobody at work really gives a shit about the video. We got back to work and immediately started talking shit again.

It's a waste of time man and our company only does it because they want to avoid legal problems. Basically, tell people that these behaviors qualify as harassment, and if it happens...REPORT IT TO HR so they can tell the offender to cut that shit out. It's damage control.

Shock humor and attention getting can be different than harrassment, but can be construed as harrassment after a person voices a clear opinion. It relates to law differently than basic human conduct. The workplace should enforce whatever rules they wish, and government should stay out of the way. One should not work at a company where there is no reasonable expectation of reconciling potential conflicts should they arise, if that is important to them.

Well it's only "bad" if your job specifically prohibits it, y'know? :p I see a lot of hypocrisy about it at work, where people "report" others for checking the weather report on their computer, but will then go back to their desk and shop for shoes online.

If your job allows it, then it's a plus in favor of your job :) Just be prepared that some folks will abuse it and you'll wind up picking up their slack.
