It is no surprise that last election season's runner-up in the GOP presidential race, former Mass. Governor Mitt Romney, is garnering a slim lead in one of the first major presidential polls to be published this year. A WSJ/NBC poll has Romney and real-estate tycoon Donald Trump as frontrunners in the 2012 election against Obama. Trump, practically an American household name that had his own reality TV show and has more than a few well known buildings named after him is generating quite the buzz for his surprise showing just 3 percentage points behind Romney. The real story however will be told in future commentary that will surely condemn this seemingly routine poll.

Congressman Ron Paul, the 'godfather' of the Tea Party movement and a conservative hero to many has been excluded harshly and directly from a Murdoch-owned WSJ and General Electric owned NBC poll. There is almost no need to mention the Texas Congressman winning the CPAC straw poll two straight years in a row, nor the Kentucky Senate victory of his son; after Fox news was forced last year to re-include Paul in a series of debates he wasn't allowed to attend, you would think that mainstream news organizations would have learned their lesson. This blatant exclusion is surely to cause quite a firestorm among Ron Paul's fervent activist supporters who will stop at nothing to make sure their candidate isn't left out of the action.
