View Full Version : Government shutdown rhetoric starting to sound like TARP

Anyone notice the parallels in the fear-mongering going on right now with what was happening with TARP? The same cast of characters, with similar predictions of disaster if the taxpayer money stops flowing to the Kleptocrats. It may have been Harry Reid who was quoting Goldman Sachs today about the dire consequences of just a couple of days of government shutdown.

Funny, I guess they should have saved for a rainy day.

Both sides are fearmongering.

This time they have the "Tea Party" to demonize, and all of the government workers and Unions on their side. :(

FOX News was reporting live from Lady Liberty claiming the lights wouldn't be on if the government shutdown. Oh, fear...fear. Actually, the more fear stories I hear, the more I'm liking the idea of government shutdown; sounds like slower government.

P.S. For media attention: If Donald Trump were smart (or had a campaign that was), he'd offer to buy (or at least lease) the National Parks, since Uncle Sam can't afford to keep the lights on.

I'm still waiting on word if we are all supposed to go out and bang on pots and pans at the stroke of midnight when it shuts down.

It may have been Harry Reid who was quoting Goldman Sachs today about the dire consequences of just a couple of days of government shutdown.

I'm guessing that they are correct, if by "dire consequences" they mean that:

A) current Goldman Sachs/financial-industry executives & advisors

and

B) former Goldman Sachs/financial-industry executives & advisors currently employed by the government

will be

C) somewhat more likely to end up plotting the further rape & plunder of the economy over "power lunches" at the country club rather than at D.C. & Wall Street area restaurants...

IOW, W(here)TF does Goldman Sachs get off warning anyone about "dire consequences?"

Good point. Boobus Americanus will likely fall for it too. Listening to the idiots in the MSM talk, it's as if the government's never shut down before. "ZOMG! People are gonna die in the streets and old people won't get their welfare!"

Anyone see this press conference by Senators Mikulski and Feinstein?

"It's all about women! The radical Republicans are going to kill all women!" - not a direct quote. ;)

Jennifer Griffin (FOX Business, she seems to be turning up more lately) on the shutdown: "It will wreck havoc on (the large bureaucracy) at the Pentagon". Tragedy!

The business channels have been talking all day about the horrors of reduced staff at the SEC and CTFC if there is a shutdown. OMG! Who will Police the markets?!!! As if those bureaucracies have ever done any policing. Aren't these the people that were surfing porn on the internet while the markets crashed?

What really irks me about this is while all the pols spread this fear about this service being cut, that hand-out being stopped, this group feeling pain...they won't miss a dime. Military members will work without pay, as will pretty much all fed employees besides congress. Their checks won't be stopping.....

They're also the people who had explicit evidence of Madeoff's scam brought to them numerous times over 10 years and did nothing. They are FAR beyond inept, I only wish they were inept. They are fully corrupt.

Oh yeah, forgot all about the Madoff scam... it probably sucks to work at a department where it's pretty much a known fact that the people at the top don't want you to do anything. All of a sudden, surfing porn there sounds like a reasonable activity. What must really depress them is when their department heads put out these sob stories that they need even more people (to sit around and do nothing).
