With them reaching out so much to other countries - why can't they measure it?

You would think a country would have that kind of equipment, somewhere.... a uni or research lab someplace.

Is it confirmed to be a full meltdown at this point? Has it reached Chernobyl levels yet? I haven't been following it the past couple of days.

The sealed a major leak and are getting better control over the facilities. They are no longer dumping radioactive water into the ocean too.

Thanks for the update! That sounds encouraging.

#1 appears to be dry and they are worried about it blowing up. (Hydrogen)

dispute over if it melted down 3% or 70%

#2 is reported as 33% meltdown and breached reactor vessel.

worry about storage pools relocating themselves to the basement due to structural damage.

New problems with #5 and #6 too.

One silver lining: In future generations Japanese siblings laying with eachother will no longer be incest but bestiality.

The fishing industry is nose-diving. There you are talking about a huge industry, fishermen, merchants, transporters, restaurants, sushi bars. Japan's main source of protein is fish. And tofu. Just to add to the economic chaos Japan is enduring.

Every time I see a picture of reactor 3, I wonder why they don't just fill the entire site with lead and concrete...

Things are not that bad, it is all being exaggerated as per the unfailing tendency of our nasty ol' press corps:

^^The article says levels of dangerous radiation are not present.
Radiation is at 1/10th the level deemed to be dangerous.

Japanese parliament report: Fukushima nuclear crisis was 'man-made'

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/07/05/world/asia/japan-fukushima-report/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

The nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant in Japan was a "man-made disaster" that unfolded as a result of collusion between the facility's operator, regulators and the government, an independent panel said in an unusually frank report Thursday.

The video interview in the above article with Michio Kaku (Professor of physics, often on TV) is well worth watching.

In the report:
"What must be admitted -- very painfully -- is that this was a disaster 'Made in Japan,' " the report said. "Its fundamental causes are to be found in the ingrained conventions of Japanese culture: our reflexive obedience; our reluctance to question authority; our devotion to 'sticking with the program.' "

Using this line of thinking, is a nuclear Iran, even for peaceful electrical use, really safe?
