I wonder every time they say "government shutdown" if the ranks of voluntarists get larger and larger.

The answer is definitely the voters who keep voting for spend happy politicians. That's definitely the main reason. I'd also put a small percentage of blame on the education system and lack of options. While there's been libertarians in elections for decades, they aren't advertised well. When you're voting for either a spend happy dem or spend happy gop, you're screwed.

I think we're also missing the boat on this. The key point is the lack of pain a gov shutdown would cause. And if the gov does shut down, does that shut down the IRS?
