Is Marco Rubio right about Libya?
GOP should listen to Fla. senator and "pass a resolution in support of the Libyan intervention."
When George W. Bush was president, Republicans in Congress fully embraced the “freedom agenda” conceptualized by Natan Sharansky and advanced by American neo-conservatives. The notion of spreading democracy in the Middle East as a way of dampening the always smoldering powder keg in that region was widely used as justification for the Iraq War - we had the means to impose a change so we should do it.
Now, when Barack Obama has used essentially the same argument to defend his decision to intervene in Libya (Qadhafi has got to go), we find most congressional Republicans in opposition to his decision.
Republicans should follow the lead of Sen. Marco Rubio and pass a resolution in support of the Libyan intervention just as Democrats under the leadership of Dick Gephardt gave George W. Bush the resolution he requested to demonstrate national resolve to the United Nations regarding Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.
Be Americans for once, instead of just Republicans.
