I think your first idea is the right one. The Florida Tea Parties were primarily interested in stopping Crist and the electability factor of Rubio probably won them over.

The truth is that if you simply said "I'm the anti-establishment candidate", you would almost always get the support of the Tea Party.

Attack: to set upon or work against.

When I say attack some of you need to realize that doesn't mean he insulted them. I am saying he's attacking their posititon, not in the way as saying "I think low preference guy is a douchebag" that would have me saying "Marco Rubio on Cavuto Insults Ron and Rand Paul." An attack in the debate arena is to argue against someone's position. Rubio was not discussing the issue, as he was set in his ways and said he disagrees.

Rubio did give Rand a positive comment in his WSJ editorial about not raising the debt ceiling.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704425804576220670543010068.html

There is still time to accomplish all this. Rep. Dave Camp has already introduced proposals to lower and simplify our tax rates, close loopholes, and make permanent low rates on capital gains and dividends. Even Mr. Obama has endorsed the idea of lowering our corporate tax rate. Sen. Rand Paul, meanwhile, has a bill that would require an up-or-down vote on "major" regulations, those that cost the economy $100 million or more. And the House has already passed a spending plan this year that lowered discretionary spending by $862 billion over 10 years.

With victory in the*congressional elections less than a day old, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (Rep.) who considers himself a ‘Tea Party’ member, is set to arrive in Israel on Sunday. Rubio’s visit so soon after the election win is a move that strengthens assessments that the congress in its current form will continue where it left off – at least where Israel is concerned.

I know others have already mentioned this, but the thread title is misleading. We can parse the definitions of words all we want but if Ron was interviewed stating that he had a disagreement with someone's position and the MSM said "Paul attacks...", we would be all over them.

CAVUTO: You know, Senator, I spoke not long ago with your freshman colleague Rand Paul and his dad, Ron Paul, the in House. Neither are big fans of the way we dole out foreign aid, period, that it always comes back to bite us.

Ron Paul going so far as to say, just stop it, all of it. What do you say?

RUBIO: Well, we have a disagreement on that.

I think the United States has political interests in the Middle East. We spend a lot of money and a lot of time and, quite frankly, lost a lot of likes because of conflicts in that region that impact our national security. The reality of it is that it is to the benefit of the world and to the United States for the Libyan people to throw Moammar Gadhafi out and to have a peace-loving government in place in that nation.

I think the same is true, hopefully, in Syria and even in Iran. Now, all these countries are different. And what we can do in these countries depends on which country we are talking about.
