President Barack Obama has signed a secret order authorizing covert U.S. government support for rebel forces seeking to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, government officials told Reuters on Wednesday.

Obama signed the order, known as a presidential "finding", within the last two or three weeks, according to four U.S. government sources familiar with the matter.

Such findings are a principal form of presidential directive used to authorize secret operations by the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA and the White House declined immediate comment.

News that Obama had given the authorization surfaced as the President and other U.S. and allied officials spoke openly about the possibility of sending arms supplies to Gaddafi's opponents, who are fighting better-equipped government forces.

I am sure none of these weapons will end up with Al Qaeda.

Not much of a secret order then, is it?

Well the fall of Gaddafi is seen as pivotal for shoring up angst over his unconstitutional decision to just start a war with Libya. So I am sure the administration would go through great lengths to prove to America that this is a "smart" war.

I am sure none of these weapons will end up with Al Qaeda.

If they do, we'll have to go into [insert middle eastern country] and eliminate the terrorist threat of course.

I am sure none of these weapons will end up with Al Qaeda.

Maybe that was the point all along. Maybe it is the conspiracy theorist in me, but maybe it is because I have become more jaded over the past couple years. But I would have no trouble believing they are intentionally destabilizing Libya to create a power vacuum where Al Qaeda can vie for power thus justifying American military intervention on behalf of the so called "moderate" forces who have already establish a Central Bank.
